At 66, Dame Helen Mirren may be a senior citizen, but that didn't stop her from beating out stiff -- and much younger -- competition to claim the title of L.A. Fitness' "Body of the Year." The British actress, who won an Oscar for her turn in 2006's The Queen, received 17.65 percent of the vote in the survey, which was commissioned by the popular L.A. Fitness gym chain. That put Mirren well ahead of the 10 percent earned by runner-up Elle MacPherson, a 48-year-old supermodel stunner nicknamed "The Body."
Impressively, Dame Helen also trumped 31-year-old British model Kelly Brook, who came in third place and People's Most Beautiful Person 2011 Jennifer Lopez, 42, who snagged the No. 4 spot with 6.6 percent of the vote.
Rounding out an impressive showing for the Brits, media darling Pippa Middleton, 27, and curvaceous actress Kate Winslet, 35, also landed on the top 10 in the poll, which was voted on by more than 2,000 people. Dame Helen, always noted for ageless sex appeal (remember the shots of her in that bikini?), beat them all.
On the male side, Los Angeles Galaxy soccer star David Beckham, 36, narrowly edged out Rachel Weisz's new hubby Daniel Craig, 43, and Johnny Depp, 48, for title of "Male Body of the Year." Amusingly, 51-year-old X-Factor judge Simon Cowell rounded out the top 10 with 1.95 percent of the vote.
"It's great to see the public celebrating bodies of all shapes and sizes, and proving that you really can look fabulous over 40 and 50," Tony Orne, marketing director for L.A. Fitness, said in response to the survey results. Indeed!
