Justin Bieber, Ke$ha, Lea Michele Up For PETA Awards

Peta2 is bestowing awards including Most Animal-Friendly Pop/Hip-Hop Artist to celebs for their support of animal rights.

PETA's youth division, peta2, is giving props to celebs like <a href="http://www.mtv.com/music/artist/bieber_justin/artist.jhtml">Justin Bieber</a>, <a href="http://www.mtv.com/music/artist/kesha_/artist.jhtml">Ke$ha</a> and "Glee" star Lea Michele at this year's <a href="http://features.peta2.com/libby-awards-2011/?utm_campaign=1211%20Libbys%20Nominees%20Press%20Pitches&utm_source=peta2%20Pitch&utm_medium=Media#PeopleAndMusic" target="_blank">Libby Awards</a> for their efforts in support of animal rights.The Biebs, who appeared in a <a href="/news/articles/1656302/justin-bieber-peta-ad.jhtml">campaign</a> for the organization at the top of the year using Bieber-fied catch-phrases like "My world includes passion for animals, yours should too" and "Animals can make u smile. Adopt from your local shelter," is taking on fellow animal-loving pop star Ke$ha and rappers k-os and Waka Flocka Flame in the Most Animal-Friendly Pop/Hip-Hop Artist category. Ke$ha appeared in an ad campaigning against the slaughter of Canadian seals.Michele, who speaks out against the mistreatment of carriage horses in New York City, faces off against "Jackass" star Steve-O, Cobra Starship's leading man and peta2's Sexiest Vegetarian Gabe Saporta, and "Victorious" star Daniella Monet in the Top Animal-Friendly Celebrity category.The Ready Set, Tokio Hotel, Hellogoodbye and the Swellers are all up for Most Animal-Friendly Band. Ke$ha and Tokio are also up for Best peta2 ad along with Social Distortion frontman Mike Ness and Yelle.The Libby (as in "Liberation") Awards will be decided on January 17 by fan votes as well as peta2. Voting ends December 23."Our nominees have all worked hard to shine their spotlights on a variety of important animal issues," peta2 Division Manager Marta Holmberg said about the nominees, which honors animal-friendly people and products. "As our accomplished stars demonstrate, compassion isn't just a virtue — it's also a road to success."

Usher's Stepson Declared Brain Dead After Jet-Ski Accident

Things went from bad to worse for Kiie Glover, Usher's 11-year-old stepson. After a tragic Jet Ski accident left the <a href="http://rapfix.mtv.com/2012/07/08/ushers-son-injured-in-jet-ski-accident/">youngster in critical condition</a> on Friday, doctors have now declared him brain dead.<a href="http://www.tmz.com/2012/07/08/usher-tameka-foster-stepson-brain-dead/" target=="_blank">TMZ</a> is reporting that Glover, who is the son of Usher's ex-wife, Tameka Foster, has not experienced any brain activity since he was admitted into the hospital two days ago. According to reports, the pre-teen and a friend were floating in inner tubes on Lake Lanier in Atlanta when they were struck by a man on a Jet Ski. Glover was unresponsive when he was taken out of the water and airlifted to Children's Healthcare of Atlanta at Egleston; his friend, an unidentified 15-year old girl, was treated for a cut on the head and a broken arm.According to the <a href="http://www.ajc.com/news/reports-ushers-stepson-injured-1473926.html" target="_blank">Atlanta Journal-Constitution,</a> the Georgia Department of Natural Resources said that alcohol doesn't appear to have been a factor in the accident and the newspaper also reported that the man on the Jet Ski and Glover were part of the same group on an outing at the lake.Foster and Usher (born Usher Raymond) were married in 2007 but divorced in 2009. The two are reportedly both present at the hospital.Many of Usher and Foster's celebrity friends took to Twitter on Sunday (July 8) to express their deepest sympathies."My deepest prayers go out to Tameka, Usher and both of their families right now," Diggy Simmons wrote."Wishing @TamekaRaymond's son godspeed recovery. horrible news to hear," Roots drummer Questlove added, while television personality La La Anthony wrote: "Praying for @TamekaRaymond and her family. Asking to give her and her family strength during this difficult time. Conrad Murray Asks For Appeal In Michael Jackson Manslaughter Case

Murray is asking appellate court to re-test a piece of medical evidence from his trial.

The imprisoned cardiologist <a href="/news/articles/1673906/michael-jackson-conrad-murray-verdict-guilty-involuntary-manslaughter.jhtml">convicted of manslaughter</a>  in the 2009 death of <a href="http://www.mtv.com/music/artist/jackson_michael/artist.jhtml">Michael Jackson</a> filed a request on Monday to have a key piece of evidence in his trial re-tested. Dr. Conrad Murray is asking an appellate court to order a lab to authorize a forensic analysis on residue in a drug vial taken from the bedroom of Jackson's rented Los Angeles estate.According to the <a href="http://www.latimes.com/news/local/la-me-0731-murray-20120731,0,2898322.story" target="_blank">Los Angeles Times</a> Murray's defense team thinks that the 100-milliliter bottle, which was a key piece of evidence at the 2011 trial that ended with Murray's conviction on involuntary manslaughter charges, could help lead to a successful appeal of the sentence.Murray's fingerprint was on the bottle, which prosecutors said held the lethal dose of the surgical anesthetic propofol that killed Jackson. Prosecutors had argued that Murray mixed a small amount of propofol with another anesthetic, lidocaine, in an intravenous drip and then left Jackson unattended.Murray's defense team said the vial was in a bag of trash and was unrelated to Jackson's death, countering that the pop icon injected himself with propofol from a syringe while the doctor wasn't looking."If a forensic examination of the residue in Exhibit 30 revealed no lidocaine, it would completely negate [the prosecution expert's] concluding theory ... leaving only the theory of bolus injection just prior to Jackson's death," appellate attorney Valerie Wass wrote in a filing.This is the third time Murray's lawyers have attempted to launch an appeal on these grounds after they argued that they did not fully comprehend the need to test the residue until the testimony of a prosecution expert near the end of the seven-week trial. During the trial, judge Michael Pastor refused a motion for further analysis shortly after the verdict; a second request was also denied.Murray, 58, received a four-year sentence but is not expected to serve more than two years in county jail.

"In the old days we would have called this selling out, but it's a good way to spend a Sunday."He was probably one of the few who were surprised, because Raising Sand, which won five trophies at Sunday night's show, is in many ways the perfect <a href="http://www.mtv.com/news/grammys/">Grammy</a> album. It features two respected veterans, a critically lauded producer, some sandpaper-and-velvet vocals and a baker's dozen of time-tested standards.<div style="margin: 0px 10px 10px 0px; float: left;"><embed src="http://media.mtvnservices.com/mgid:uma:video:mtv.com:338316" width="256" height="223" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" flashVars="configParams=instance%3Dnews%26vid%3D338316" allowFullScreen="true" allowScriptAccess="always" base="."></embed></div>You're probably familiar with Robert Plant from his <MTVNLINK type="artist" id="993">Led Zeppelin</MTVNLINK> days, and you might be aware of producer T-Bone Burnett's work on the "O Brother, Where Art Thou?" soundtrack (it won the Grammy for Album of the Year in 2002). And if you don't know who Alison Krauss is, she possesses a haunting set of pipes and is one of the meanest fiddle players in the world. Oh, and she's won 21 Grammys, more than any other female artist and the seventh-most in history.Really, she's the key to Sand's success, and not just because of her voice (or her fiddle playing). She and Plant first met in 2004, at a Rock and Roll Hall of Fame tribute to legendary bluesman Leadbelly, and the former Zeppelin man was amazed by her knowledge of American Roots music — so much so that they began kicking around the idea of recording an album together. Three years later, Sand was released.And while Plant possesses the more famous voice, the album's finest moments radiate from Krauss. Whether she's getting bluesy on Little Milton's "Let Your Loss Be Your Lesson" or entwining with Plant's husky voice on songs like "Please Read the Letter" and Roly Salley's winsome "Killing the Blues," she more than carries her end of the bargain.And perhaps that's also due to producer Burnett, who handpicked the 13 songs the duo cover on Sand. His arrangements are sparse — giving the two voices ample room to breathe — yet dense, warm and crackling at the same time. It's a testament to his work that he's often given just as much billing as Plant and Krauss on the project ... and it's certainly justified.To date, Sand has sold more than 1 million copies, heaped tons of acclaim and actually earned a Grammy last year — "Gone Gone Gone (Done Moved On)" took home the award for Best Pop Collaboration With Vocals.One expert was surprised not by the album's success, but by the fact that it's actually quite a good album."At first, the album seemed like a vanity project. ... Two names, clearly a one-off record, didn't have to be any good, you know?" New York Times music critic Jon Caramanica said. "Led Zeppelin fans would buy it because of Robert Plant, Alison Krauss would get a check. But it actually turned out to be a really thoughtful, really good record. So when you combine all that with the fact that the Grammys love to lionize one of their own, I could really see it taking home some awards."

<a href="http://www.mtv.com/music/artist/flaming_lips/artist.jhtml">Flaming Lips</a> mastermind Wayne Coyne took away more than just <a href="http://pitchfork.com/news/46404-flaming-lips-blood-vinyl-10-copies-2500-features-keha-erykah-badu-nick-cave-chris-martin-blood/" target="_blank">a vial of blood</a> when he traveled to Nashville to record with <a href="http://www.mtv.com/music/artist/kesha_/artist.jhtml">Ke$ha</a>. (Though, really, you'd think that would be enough.) He also left with his first-ever tattoo ... not to mention a newfound respect for the wild-child pop star."Most of the time, if someone's willing to work with me, they're going to be a freak. And Ke$ha ... I sort of thought that she would be a freak, I'd heard about her and we'd tried to get a hold of her earlier," Coyne told MTV News backstage at the <a href="/news/articles/1685474/dave-matthews-band-hangout-fest.jhtml">Hangout Fest</a> in Gulf Shores, Alabama. "We showed up at her house, and she has a tattoo gun that she gives everyone a tattoo with, so within 20 minutes of being at her house, I had a tattoo on my toe; it's the only tattoo I've ever had."We were set to do this one song that I had prepared, and we went into the studio that night, and stayed there until about 2 in the morning, and did four songs, just making stuff up," he continued. "And the next day [we] worked for another couple hours. She's funny, she's gracious, she's imaginative, she's creative and she's a lot of fun to be around."The result of that collaboration (a song called "2012") shows up on the Lips' special Record Store Day double-LP, The Flaming Lips and Heady Fwends, a thoroughly out-there collection of songs and sound-collages that — as the title implies — the band recorded with the likes of Bon Iver, Nick Cave, Neon Indian, Yoko Ono and, uh, Coldplay's Chris Martin ... to name just a few. But will fans get to hear even more of the Flaming Lips/Ke$ha team-up? Well, Coyne certainly hopes so."We really loved making this music together — I think I've probably done six or seven songs with her — and I know a lot of her fans like ['2012'], but I don't know if we'll put more songs out there," he said. "She has other agendas besides doing music with Wayne, you know, but I hope so, because I think it's really great, crazy, unexpected music. And she, to her credit, loves what we do. She wants it to be whatever. She has no limits of what she wants it to be."And don't think the Heady Fwends sessions will be the last time Coyne and Ke$ha share time (or blood) in the studio. If anything, the Lips' recent output of, uh, non-traditional releases — songs encased in gummy skulls and fetuses, 24-hour noise-jam freakouts that <a href="http://flaminglipstwentyfourhoursong.com/" target="_blank">play for all eternity</a>, limited-edition vinyl filled with actual blood, etc — suggests Coyne and Co. are just getting started ... and they're going to get even weirder before they're finished."That's been the beautiful thing about all of these weird collaborations and projects; you work with freaks. Even working with someone like Chris Martin, he's very open to, like, 'Let's do stuff!' That's the great surprise about it," Coyne said. "I don't think people are surprised when we work with a group like Lightning Bolt or Neon Indian — people think of us as like-minded — but the surprising thing with the Chris Martins or the Ke$has, they're like us too, they just don' play music that sounds like that all the time."

Usher's Stepson Kile Glover Taken Off Life Support

11-year-old died Saturday from heart failure after he was pulled off of life support, according to Channel 2 Action News.

Kile Glover, stepson of singer <a href="http://www.mtv.com/music/artist/usher/artist.jhtml">Usher Raymond</a> and biological child of ex-wife Tameka Foster Raymond, died Saturday morning (July 21), according to Channel 2 Action News.Kile was taken off of life support Saturday morning and died from heart failure according to a family friend, weeks after the 11-year-old was involved in a tragic <a href="http://www.mtv.com/news/articles/1689206/ushers-stepson-declared-brain-dead-after-jet-ski-accident.jhtml">Jet Ski accident</a>. Kile was declared brain dead two days after the July 6 accident, and the family struggled with the decision to remove him from life support hoping for a turn in his condition."We know God's in control, and are leaning on our faith in Him and His word at this most difficult time," the family told CNN in a statement weeks ago. "We firmly believe in the power of prayer and ask that you all continue to pray and lift Kile up, as it's the best way we can all support him now."Earlier yesterday Tameka tweeted a photo of Kile alongside his younger brother Cinco (Usher V).Glover and a second victim, a 15-year-old girl, were struck by a Jet Ski while floating on an inner tube in Atlanta's Lake Lanier. Both children were airlifted to the Children's Healthcare of Atlanta at Egleston pediatric hospital. The girl is reported to have suffered from a cut on the head and a broken arm, while Glover took the brunt of the trauma to his head.Atlanta's radio personality DJ Greg Street sent out a tweet earlier this morning where he expressed support for Tameka, Usher and Kile's dad Ryan Glover. "Lil RG is an Angel now, Ryan, Tameka, Usher & the whole Glover Family we gotta make him proud," he wrote.The man driving the jet ski has been identified as 38-year-old Jeffrey S. Hubbard, a family friend. At this time the police have determined that no drugs were involved, and no charges are being pressed.Kile is the son of Tameka Foster, the ex-wife of singer Usher Raymond, and Atlanta TV executive Ryan Glover. Foster has three children from previous relationships prior to her marriage to Usher.

Glover, the son of Usher's ex-wife Tameka Foster, was <a href="/news/articles/1689206/ushers-stepson-declared-brain-dead-after-jet-ski-accident.jhtml">pronounced brain dead</a> on Sunday, but his family has issued a statement, saying that they are keeping positive thoughts and asking for prayers."We know God's in control, and are leaning on our faith in Him and His word at this most difficult time," the family told <a href="http://www.cnn.com/2012/07/10/showbiz/usher-stepson-injured/index.html" target="_blank">CNN</a> in a statement. And while she never calls anyone out by name, savvy fans everywhere shouldn't find it too difficult a task to decode the folks she refers to for making her feel like she was "in chains at times."<div class="player-placeholder right" title="Lady Gaga Twitter Lightning Round!" id="vid:683377.id:1669247" width="415" height="255"></div>Titled "A letter to my sweet fans" she <a href="http://littlemonsters.com/text/502a26e8ac460c3c27001ebc"_blank">writes</a>, "Today is a really happy day for me. The past year was a challenge, and I'm so happy to have my spirit back. I felt in chains at times."She then began to address the people who she felt inhibited by over the course of her Born This Way era. "Whether [it] be the record label disagreeing with me on single choices, or directors who could only create an idea of 'gaga' or what i've 'done before' and not able to move forward," she writes. This project was run solely by the Haus of Gaga, Atom Factory, and Steven Klein's fantastic team. I am feeling blessed to have removed those from my life driven by money and luxury, its all about the art of it. I feel free today. Thank you for always being there for me monsters."With all those "massive struggles" behind her, she is readying her latest reincarnation. She will release her Fame perfume in September followed by her next album, <a href="/news/articles/1691226/lady-gaga-new-album-artpop.jhtml">ARTPOP</a>, in early 2013.It's not the first time she's addressed some of her personal turmoil in her art. In her <a href="/news/articles/1675265/lady-gaga-marry-the-night-premiere.jhtml">"Marry The Night" video</a>, which she released earlier this year, she hit on some of those points in a somewhat fictional matter, playing a fallen ballerina who reinvents herself as a "Fame"-like dancer turned pop star leaving her tumultuous past behind her.

I wanted to tell a story. Feel like a movie. #AsLongAsYouLoveMe," he wrote, showing some love to the master. He later added, "Push the limits. Fight for what you BELIEVE in."As of Wednesday night, Bieber was astounded that his video had amassed more than 1 million views in less than 10 hours. But that number nearly quadrupled on Thursday morning — as of press time, the video had almost 4 million streams.Bieber is not only feeling the love for his <a href="/news/articles/1690932/justin-bieber-as-long-as-you-love-me-video.jhtml">"ALAYM" video</a> but also for his "Boyfriend" video, which just received two <a href="http://www.mtv.com/ontv/vma/2012/">2012 MTV Video Music Award</a> nominations for <a href="/news/articles/1690978/rihanna-only-girl-best-pop-video-video-music-awards.jhtml">Best Pop Video</a> and Best Male Video. Bieber goes into the September 6 broadcast already a two-time VMA winner. He'll learn if he can take home another one when the show goes live from the Staples Center.The VMAs take place just weeks before Bieber kicks off his sold-out <a href="/news/articles/1688265/justin-bieber-after-believe.jhtml">Believe tour</a>, which coincidentally will also be heavily influenced by the King of Pop."He has been watching a tremendous amount of Michael Jackson concerts from the '80s and '90s," his manager Scooter Braun shared. "And he has been talking to me about how Michael incorporated magic and pyro and reveals and he wants to bring in that. [But] still do that acoustic thing, but he wants to take it to a whole new level."It's just really exciting," Braun continued. "Nothing makes him happier than being onstage. So it's gonna be fun to get back onto the road. I think he was an amazing performer before, but his level of dance and musicianship and his range [has grown]. He's a veteran now. I think he wants to take it to a completely new level."

"I don't necessarily feel accomplished. Crunchy synths and a dance beat serve as the soundtrack to <a href="http://www.mtv.com/music/artist/lady_gaga/artist.jhtml">Lady Gaga</a>'s eye-catching <a href="http://littlemonsters.com/video/502a18bae898f2d661002e6c" target="_blank">trailer</a> for her <a href="/news/articles/1687383/lady-gaga-fame-perfume.jhtml">Fame fragrance</a>, which hits stores in September.In the Steven Klein-directed spot, Gaga wears latex — and in some cases nothing — as she commands a spaceship full of beefy guys. Billy Ray Cyrus Talks Miley's Drug Use and Engagement

Never one to shy away from talking about his beloved progeny, Billy Ray Cyrus spoke about Miley Cyrus' recent drama including marijuana usage and her engagement to Liam Hemsworth.

In an interview with "Access Hollywood" on Thursday (April 25), the "Achy Breaky Heart" singer downplayed the drug rumors, saying, "I look back and think, ?If the Internet would?ve existed when I was her age I?d probably still be in jail.??

After video of the "Hannah Montana" star smoking out of a bong in 2010 surfaced, several shots of the 20-year-old smoking suspicious hand-rolled cigarettes emerged.

Comparing his daughter's antics with his past, the country crooner explained, "I grew one [pot] plant one time and my mom ran out there and killed it. I was watching that thing all summer ? I was so proud of it. I came home one day and it was gone!"

When asked about Miley's relationship status with Liam, Billy Ray admitted, "That?s Miley?s deal as far as when the wedding is. I don?t really know that much about when they?re getting married.?

The singer has just unveiled another ad for her fragrance, the aptly titled <a href="/news/articles/1689786/lady-gaga-nude-perfume-ad.jhtml">Fame</a>, dropping in September.While she donned nothing except for tiny men crawling up her body in the last image, this new one features the singer in a clingy PVC bodysuit with a big PVC hat and face mask. The black-and-white photo features two Mother Monsters, facing off in a side-by-side mirror image.<div class="player-placeholder right" title="Lady Gaga's Musical Roots" id="vid:657640" width="415" height="255"></div>Like the first ad, this one was also shot by "Alejandro" video director and fashion photographer Steven Klein. Justin Bieber Searches For One Fan To Dance On Believe Tour

"We're gonna make you believe in magic," tour director Jon Chu says in online casting call.

<a href="http://www.mtv.com/music/artist/bieber_justin/artist.jhtml">Justin Bieber</a> is offering up a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for one of his lucky Beliebers.The singer has just launched a campaign where fans can upload videos of themselves dancing. One lucky dancer will score a coveted audition spot with Bieber to try and snag a dancer position on his <a href="/news/articles/1686358/justin-bieber-believe-tour.jhtml">Believe tour</a>.Bieber, with the help of his "Never Say Never" helmer and his tour director, Jon M. Chu, will be scouring <a href="http://www.youtube.com/ds2dio" target="_blank">Chu's D-Studio</link> to find the next great dancing talent. The campaign launched Friday (August 3), while in-person dance auditions kicked off earlier this week in L.A.<div class="player-placeholder right" title="Justin Bieber Proving His Haters Wrong With 'Good Music'" id="vid:793035" width="415" height="255"></div>"Justin also has such a huge online component, that's where he was discovered," Chu told <a href="http://www.eonline.com/news/335327/Justin-Bieber-Launches-New-Site-to-Find-Dancers-for-Believe-Tour" target="_blank">E! News</a>. "You can upload your own video and audition.""We're only looking for the best dancers in the world. "It's gonna be like an epic journey."The guys are looking for dancers of all styles. Chu added that Bieber and the team have a certain goal for the tour, "We're gonna make you believe in magic." Submissions must be in by August 17.
